How Often Should I Feed My Koi?

The way you feed your koi depends on the temperatures of your pond. If it is colder than 52 degrees in general, you do not want to feed your koi at all. This contrasts with the spring and summer, when you will need to provide your koi twice daily, and the fall months where you want to feed your koi a couple of times a week. When feeding your koi, make sure only to give them what they can eat in two minutes or so. Excess food puts more nutrients in the water, encouraging excessive algae growth. If you are overfeeding your koi, you are likely to need commercial pond maintenance far more frequently.
